Having breakfast for dinner at Denny's is always a serious business with dozens of people in the equation. It's very busy for the late hour, with the waitresses and waiters bringing two arms full of plates to the various customers, all with impatient looks on their faces. It was a fast paced environment with many people walking and moving around as obsticles for the workers. I highly doubt that our waitress is as happy as she pretends to be at our table. Unlike "Jerry's", this is a non-smoking establishment, a plus. Im am fairly certain that the waitresses and waiters must be fluent in spanish before being considered for this job because the area is of ninty percent hispanic ethnicity. The place looks clean and kept up with few tables left dirty and unoccupied.
ReplyDeleteGreat food; waffles with strawberry's on top with a mug of coffee and a side of toasted hash browns. Looks like decent quality food around the table. The cooks are probably not entry level high school students. These cooks have cooked before. I guess Jerry's is alot worse than this but you get the picture when Ehrenreich talks about how few people last on the first day due to the amount of work. These people are working fast and methodically. They ostensibly put on a display of perkiness for the extra tips as well.
I decide to go to Norms for my observations for this assignment. For some reason I felt that the employees at Norms were not unhappy unlike at Jerry's. They all seen really kind and helpfull. The enviorment is quite crazy during the mornings. The good thing is that there seems to be at least one waiter per 4 tables which makes better customer service. This resturant seems to be very different to Jerry's especially the working conditions do not seem bad at all.
ReplyDeleteAnother important observation that I made was to notice how well trained the employee's were. When i asked the waiter what was good to eat he help describe the food in detail which made my choice much easier. Many of the employee's help eachother out with big orders and even small favors asked by the customers. As a matter a fact some of the waitress are elderly and must have been working there for a while.
Overall Jerry's is much different in training and customer service compared to Norms. Also Jerry's does not satisfy their employees were Norms does seem to do so.
Today I decided to eat at Albert's a resturant located in La Habra on Whitter Blvd. just past Harbor. The actualy building used to be a Wienershnitzl or however you spell that. The building has no inside except for what the workers work in its all outdoor seating. The tight elongated building leaves barely enough room for 2 workers to stand back to back with all the equipment in the kitchen. The place seemed poorly ventalated with everyone sweating. Although the conditions werent so good for the workers the customer service was still great.
ReplyDeleteThere was still a very friendly person helping us with our orders and we got out food fast and fresh. We sat outside on their given benches and even outside of the building they were cleaning and giving quality service. The people working seemed like they needed a little more space to move around, 2 people can barely work back to back and there isnt enough room to move. It was very busy thats maybe why everything seemed very rushed and thats why they were working so hard. At the end of the trip i felt a little bad for the peopel that had to work inside, they had some pretty rough things to deal with but they still seemed to do it with a smile on their face a hitch in their giddyup.
again, there is suposed to be a new paragraph at " there was still a very...."
